SOS - SATURDAY OF SERVICE

Saturday of Service continued...

Sherry Schubert supplied a wonderful lunch. While we ate in Lana’s home, she played the piano and told us the story of how she took up playing the piano. It is easy to see why she is such a good piano teacher – she plays like the piano is part of her. It was a treat to have Lana share her talent with us. Lana’s two daughters were a little surprised that people they didn’t know, were there doing the yard work. The lesson they were learning was that sometimes people give without expecting something in return.

Jane secretly took this picture with her cell phone -
Lana at her piano.

In the afternoon, Lana’s younger daughter Leila, came out to help. You should have seen the smile on her face. She was an inspiration to all of us that were working.

Leila, happy to be helping.

Raised beds in back - raspberries planted!

Our SOS was a great success! It provided a venue for new members and seasoned members to work together and to get to know one another better. It was also a chance to learn some things about pruning, planting and protecting what is planted.

Lana has neighbors with young boys who do not have a dad around. The Soroptimist husbands took the boys under their wings and let them help. The interaction between the men and boys was priceless. It was a good example of receiving while we are giving.

Ray Bentsen and one of his helpers.

The project involved Soroptimist members, husbands, a local store and most of the people on Lana’s block came by to at least offer words of encouragement. It was well worth a few sore muscles. And we have a year to get in shape for the next one!

Many thanks to all those who participated. As we learned from our past Governor Dede -TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More.
