Relay for Life is an exciting community activity where everyone can participate in the fight against cancer. In over 4200 communities across the country ... teams of people will take turns walking or running around a track. Each team raises funds and will have a representative on the track at all times during the overnight event - because cancer never sleeps. There will be luminaries to light the way to symbolize the hope which we continue to fight cancer. There will be a Survivors Victory Walk to show that we are making progress in the fight.
 
Fighting cancer is a team effort. The strength of people coming together for a common cause is greater than the strength of one. Great strength lies in the synergy of relays taking place worldwide. More then 4,200 communities and 12 countries hosted a Relay for Life event last year and there will be more this year. Fighting cancer is a team effort. We have several survivors in our Soroptimist group; please join the Sequim Soroptimist group at our Relay for Life event on June 3rd and 4th.
 
Here are some ways you can participate.
 
WALK
– We need people to walk around the clock – starting at 6PM on Friday evening until 6PM on Saturday evening. The time is in half hour increments; you can bring a friend or family members to walk w/ you.
 
RAISE MONEY
– Ask family, friends and business associates to sponsor your walk.
– Make your own contribution.
– Write and mail a letter asking for donations.
– Ask at other service clubs or religious groups for their support.
– Make/sell items of value to raise money at the relay.
– If you own a store you could “sell” medallions. (small certificate in which a person puts his name to be posted in place of honor in your business establishment.
– Sell luminaries – they can place someone’s name who is to remembered on the bag – or just to light the way.
– Place a jar in your place of business asking for cancer donations.

           

I have luminaries, medallions and donation envelopes AND receipts. If you can use/ want any of the materials PLEASE let me know and I will get it to you ASAP!!

We will be selling luminaries with Elaine Carlson's name on them. What a great way to honor our Sister Soroptimist who so courageously lived her life.
 
Our goal this year is $4,000. Colleen has already gotten over $400 in donations by just asking people if they would like to donate, when they purchased their garden show ticket.

Some of us will be camping at the Fairgrounds (the Clallam Country Fairgrounds in Port Angeles) where the “Relay for Life” is being held this year. We will be BBQing and have other snacks and drinks available – I might even make bacon and eggs for breakfast if we have enough folks. Please come join us – camp w/ us, walk w/ us or just come by and say hello and show your support for this important event in our county. If you have or can obtain a picture on digital camera of a cancer victim or survivor that we can honor to be used in the Video Pictorial Display that will be running during the relay please forward it to me.
