CHOCOHOLICS
UNITE
On Saturday, April
16th, Soroptimist of Sequim participated in the first ever Olympic
Chocolate Festival. Where there was chocolate....they came....
in droves. Even before the doors were officially open, the crowd began
to form and the air was filled with wonder and excitement. From 10
AM until closing it was the most unbelievable sight as over 1300 people
came to see and taste a variety of chocolate treats. We were especially
pleased to have Chandra (our See’s rep) join us for the event.
She brought all the candy with her and had cases of the newest candy
bar on the market to give away as a “sample”. The Awesome
Bar soon became the talk of the event and people were coming back
for more. It truly was a bargain since the $5.00 entrance fee paid
for 5 “tokens” and a free cloth bag with the Chocolate
Fest logo. These paper tokens were exchanged for a sample at one of
the 15+ booths. At the end of the day, Soroptimist turned in over
600 tokens. In fact, we completely ran out of candy bars even though
we cut the last box of bars in half. Colleen raided Marti’s
supply of See’s and those samples were gone in less than 20
minutes.
Kathy Purcell supplied some Soroptimist information cards that earmarked
the major community service projects we sponsor. There was a lot of
interest in Soroptimist and only 4 of the 50 cards placed on our table
were left over. I think we may have recruited Chandra to join a Soroptimist
club near Tukwila.
