COMMUNICATIONS/IMAGE COMMITTEE REPORT

At our August Brainstorming Meeting, President Sandy told us about the new SIA logo. We got to see it for the first time on the cover of our Member Roster books that President Sandy handed out that evening. While recently reading the soroptimist_new_look_book.pdf file, I found some information on how the change came about and I share it with you now.

NEW LOGOTYPE , TAGLINE AND MISSION STATEMENT

The SIA Board of Directors agreed that the organization needed a new original logotype and tagline. It was decided that Best For Women would be the new tagline because it works on many levels:
1. “Best for Women” is the translation of the word “Soroptimist” and as such has great meaning to the organization.
2. The statement is inspirational and has a “feel-good” quality.
3. “Best for Women” describes both the qualities of Soroptimist membership AND the work that is done on behalf of other women.
4. The word Soroptimist is a difficult name and short of changing it, having a tagline that is also the translation of the word is the next best thing.
5. This tagline will provide a natural jumping off point for editorial copy in collateral materials, the website, etc.
6. No other organization is using the “Best for Women” phrase, nor is it trademarked.

The Board also adopted “Improving the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world” as SIA’s official mission statement, because it best describes what the organization seeks to accomplish.

It is extremely important to SIA’s branding effort that there be pervasive and consistent use of the new logotype, tagline and mission statement. It should be noted that the federation, regions and clubs should strive to emphasize the name “Soroptimist,” rather than individual federation, region or club names. Soroptimist is the name that the public should come to recognize.

Over the summer we will be reviewing all forms, documents, brochures, etc. and revising them to incorporate the new logotype, tagline and mission statement. If your committee uses any forms, please get a copy to President-elect Megan or myself.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS

ROSE JAEGER

Rose was born in Minnesota but grew up in Washington. After college she and her husband Tim traveled to different states and different jobs. Her three children were all born in different states. She taught and was a substitute teacher in secondary education.
Rose and Tim settled in Puyallup where she was a volunteer coordinator and administrative assistant for emergency housing. Their daughter talked them into the Nursery business a year ago so they are on a new adventure.

PAMELA CALDERO

My name is Pamela Caldero and I moved to Sequim last summer. I have been coming to Sequim for about five years to visit clients and liked it so much I decided I would retire here.
I’m certainly not retired but the Corporate America Machine started grinding away at my soul so I decided rather than work another five years in downtown on the 52nd floor with a three to five hour commute I would move to Sequim and work another twenty years in a fabulous environment.

was born and raised on the coast of Oregon where some of my family still lives; including my two wonderful grown sons, James and Johnathan. I also have a sponsored daughter through World Vision. Her name is Gemima and she lives in Haiiti. Some day I hope to visit her. I have lived in Dallas, Texas and Washington, DC and Dorothy is right “there is no place like home”; and Sequim is home.

I have been providing Financial Planning and Asset Management services for over 15 years and am a Certified Estate Planner. In my previous life I was a Vice-President of Private Wealth Management so I had the opportunity to work with a variety of interesting consulting cases. I’m happy to be working with the local community and rarely take a referral out of the area. If you come into my office you will find my faithful companion “Foy”, a three year old Maltese who hasn’t quite figured out the waiting area chairs are not for him.

I fortunately bought a piece of property about a year and a half ago, prior to my decision to move here. Thank goodness I did because without the corporate America salary and the land price increases in Sequim I wouldn’t be blessed enough to have it. I have about eight acres, with Dungeness River frontage and it is my sanctuary. I bought a tractor last summer and her name is Lucy; after my mom who passed away a couple of years ago. I’m hoping to build a small cabin this fall and some day my goal is to spend lots of time learning how to garden. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to make such good friends and look forward to lots of smiles.
